Cultural Tip #1 (Ku-Tipp)

Ku-Tipp # 1 – TEXT:
Jorge Luis Borges, Die Bibliothek von Babel

“O Time, your pyramids.” Only a few texts could be said to deal so hauntingly and poetically with the topic of infinity.  Are we not all librarians and parts of a comprehensive library? Our first cultural tip addresses this question in more depth.

Instruments in the trees

Franz Tunder (1614-1667) composed “An Wasserflüssen Babylon” (“By the floods of Babylon”) on a text, based on Psalm 137, which laments that songs of mourning can no longer be played, and thus instruments are hung in the trees.

Though back then it had nothing to do with the Coronavirus, the situation does share certain similarities with the current predicament of Cappella and of so many of our colleagues. So that we can survive and thrive–together–in the coming months, we will be posting music, text, and more here. We want to illuminate the glorious music of the Renaissance, Capella de la Torre’s repertoire, from as many perspectives as possible, and get into conversations with you. Please do write to us on the contact page or in the comments section. We are excited to hear from you!
